Guide: Replacing the Counterbalance Weight

This guide will walk you through the process of accessing and replacing the counterbalance weight on your Sensei Pro Polisher.

Tools Required:

  • Allen Key (included with polisher)
  • A coin (or large flat-head screwdriver)
  • Adjustable wrench

Step 1: Remove the Backing Plate

Begin by flipping the polisher over to access the backing plate. Locate the center screw secured in the middle of the plate.

  • Insert the Allen key into the center screw (circled in red).
  • Unscrew it completely and lift the backing plate off the spindle.

Step 2: Loosen the Top Cover Screws

To access the internal counterweight, you must first remove the protective top shroud.

  • Locate the plastic screws on the side of the unit (circled in red).
  • Use a coin to rotate and remove these screws. Using a coin prevents stripping the plastic slots compared to a traditional screwdriver.

Step 3: Slide Off the Top Housing

Once the side screws are removed, the top yellow housing is free to move.

  • Firmly grip the housing and slide it forward (away from the handle) as indicated by the arrow.
  • Set the housing aside in a safe place.

Step 4: Engage the Spindle Lock

To unscrew the counterweight, you must prevent the motor shaft from spinning.

  • Locate the black locking button on the gear housing (circled in red).
  • Press and hold this button down firmly. This locks the internal gears so the counterweight stays stationary while you apply torque.

Step 5: Remove the Counterbalance Weight

With the locking button held down, you can now remove the weight.

  • Fit an adjustable wrench onto the flat sections of the counterbalance weight.
  • Twist the wrench counter-clockwise (as shown by the red arrows).
  • Note: This may require significant effort as it is secured tightly to the threaded spindle.

Step 6: Install the New Weight

  • Thread the new counterbalance weight onto the spindle by hand.
  • While holding the spindle lock button (from Step 4), use the wrench to tighten the new weight securely.
  • Reassemble the housing and backing plate by reversing the steps above.
